Halloween Parade 2023 Info

Updated: Oct 13, 2023

Please see the details on the Halloween celebration at SMSA.

Parade Details & Route

Parents are Invited to watch an SMSA Costume Parade in Downtown Glens Falls on Halloween Day!

After lunch, students will enjoy a costume party and then head out at 1PM for a costume parade around the main streets of downtown Glens Falls, weather permitting.

Parade Route

The parade will commence at the SMSA playground and students will head north to Maple Street. They will then continue left to cross Ridge Street, go through Glens Falls City Park, continue down Glen Street, take a left back up Ridge Street to the light at Maple, then turn right back to Church St to finish back at the SMSA playground.

Parents are welcome to come line the parade route, so kids get a real “parade experience” and have

supporters to cheer them on. See route below:

Rain Plan

If there is light rain or a drizzle outside, the parade will occur. In the case of heavy rain, the parade will be cancelled and students will continue to the Great Hall for games and fun. Due to capacity, this will be a student-only event in the case of rain.

More Parade Details:

  • We do not hand out candy or accept candy from anyone along the route

  • We invite parents to line our parade route to cheer us on, but ask that they not walk with us as there are a lot of children to keep track of.

  • Parents will line the route but not walk with their children–NA and K teachers may have to explain this clearly

  • 6th and 7th graders will be in costume and help walk a “buddy” in the parade

  • Noah’s Ark students who do not typically attend on Tuesdays may come, in costume, at 12:45 to join the parade, provided they are picked up immediately afterwards.

Costume Requirements:

Costumes must be brought to school in a separate bag. Students are encouraged to wear fall-festive clothing as a dress down day. Any head pieces or masks must be removed according to the instructions of the teachers.

With so many possibilities for costumes, themes involving black magic, violence, horror movie

characters or other unsavory topics need to be avoided. Please find all costume requirements below:

  • No visible blood

  • No hair dye or makeup

  • Avoid demonic costumes, focus should be on fun–not horror!

  • Make sure the costume is something children can put on themselves (for the most part).

  • NO weapons (guns, knives, swords/lightsabers, axes, clubs, etc.), even if they go with the costume. If a toy weapon comes into school, it will be kept in the main office until a parent can pick it up.
